pretend friend

Two latest thesis pictures! The first one is a game of musical chairs, where the poor chairs have been inflicted with a case of the shuffles. During crit yesterday, most people said they couldn't tell the chairs were moving, so I'll have to fix that. The other is hide & seek: a picture window becomes the surveillance post for the IT kid to do a little cheating. The technique is waay different than the ones from earlier, but I'm still sort of playing around.

The finished product, just a few pictures of the inside!
12 pages and no idea how to bind a book.

DADCAT

This is the other project I'm working on, it's kind of gripping my sanity while thesis is uhh, not. It started as the single image about my dad getting another cat (a homework assignment for Blair Drawson) and kind of flew off the handle from there. Anyway just a peek, the rest of the drawings are done but I just have to assemble them into something tangible!

Pretty sure my dad has replaced his kids with cats.

chase

I've been really hesitant to post anything thesis related, because I'd rather wait and have it all pretty and done feeling before I show anyone! ... but then, what would be the point of the blog. Especially if I want to show more process work.. heh. Well, here it is then. Right now I'm playing around with the idea of meshing classic children's games with technology, in an attempt to show the versatility of the imagination and even as I'm writing this I'm yawning. SO! Game of Tag. Cursor is it. The end.

I hope I will feel better about talking about this stuff soon :/

Here's the other one. Both of these suckers endured MegaCrit a couple of weeks ago.

skinning

Back on Manitoulin for reading week, I was able to attend a coyote information seminar put on for farmers and hunters in the area... my sister MaryEllen works for Manitoulin Streams as well as with the Ontario Federation for Anglers and Hunters, focusing on ecosystem rehabilitation programs for the island. She was on a committee that helped organize this event, so we went together on Saturday morning to Mindemoya where it was held.

There's a huge population of coyotes there, and farmers have had problems with these animals attacking their livestock, but also since the population is so large hunters have been able to hunt coyotes and sell their fur across the world. This seminar was so awesome, they taught us about calls and how intonations change the message you're communicating... yeah, I learned how to talk to coyotes.

The BEST part, though, was the skinning. The point was to teach you how to effectively skin the animal to get the best price for the fur. Me and mares got right up there, front and center and I was able to draw a lot of what happened... though everyone thought I was a bit nuts since they were all there to learn about hunting them. It was super fun. Thanks for the opportunity B!

Drawing&Painting

Intended to not have a focal point. The shoe leads your eye in, but it's then drawn around the composition...

Taking something mundane and making it interesting... this is the grate to the ventilation system (at least I think that's what it was??) inside the drawing classroom.

I love drawing and painting classes with Gillian. It's so stress-free and fun.
